Rules:
OVERALL Grading: See individual course Syllabus for Grading
Sketch Books
Students will receive quarterly sketchbook homework assignments. Students must come to class prepared with their sketchbook.
Art Criticism & Critiques
Students are expected to participate in evaluating and critiquing historical artwork, peer artwork, as well as their own artwork throughout the year.
Rubrics
NWHS art rubrics will be used to grade projects, journals, sketch books, and collaborative group work. The rubrics define all expectations and intended outcomes for each project.
Make-up Work
Make-up work policy is consistent with Northwest High School’s policy. The student must speak to their teacher about the work due for each class missed. Use the Resources for each class to stay up-to-date with week-to-week lessons and assignments.
**All artwork should remain in the classroom until the end of the school year for art shows and competitions. If a parent wishes to see the student’s artwork, they may come by the classroom or the student can make arrangements with me to take the work home and return it to school.**
Rules:
- DO NOT BE LATE FOR CLASS! You are considered late if you are not in your seat prepared with all class materials when the bell rings. See Northwest Tardy Policy
- Be respectful to yourself, your teacher, administrators, other students, visitors, and materials.
- Bring all required materials to class each day. Do not come to class unprepared.
- Keep a good attitude and do your best.
- It is extremely important that each student has the right to work in a quiet environment. Art class is not a social time for visiting friends. Art class is for improving your creativity and ability; if you do not do the work, you will not receive a passing grade. No extra credit will be given when the expected work is not done and turned in.
- All assignments must include your first and last name, date and class period. I can not give you a grade without a name on the assignment. (Check the "No Name" wall for work that does not have a name)
- Late Work: All work has specific due dates. If at the end of the quarter you have not turned in the assignments, it will become a zero. (There is no excuse for this, only excused absences, because you will be provided ample studio time to complete ALL assignments.)
- You are not allowed do work from other classes in art class. If you are caught doing work from another class it will be taken from you and may NOT be returned to you. Likewise, I do not want to hear of my art students doing work in other teacher’s classes.
- Every student must contribute to the clean up process. Class may be held back if the area is not clear by the bell.
- If students need additional studio time, they can make arrangements with their teacher.
- Cell Phones may be used for music (with head phones only) and to use as research for projects. They may NOT BE USED DURING INSTRUCTION, to watch videos, take pictures, talk on the phone, play games, etc. unless otherwise instructed by the teacher. See Northwest cell phone policy.
- Bathroom Policy. No use of the restroom during the first and last 10 minutes of class, please try to use the restroom during class change.
- Hall Passes. Northwest is enforcing the use of hall passes. If you are leaving the classroom, you must have a hall pass with you designating your destination. (You are never allowed to go to your car throughout the school day)
