Photographic Design I is an introductory course in photography and expands your skill as a photographer with emphasis on composition and design. This class broadens understanding of need and use of photography. We will study the elements and principles of art and design as they relate to photography. Students will have a photography assignment due every one to two weeks and will do design related projects in class to supplement their skills in composition. There is no prerequisite for this class, and the presumption is that students have no prior knowledge of the field. This class will involve a combination of required readings, lecture, group projects, class demonstrations, slide talks, computer tutorials, class discussions and critiques around required assignments. We do not have a darkroom here at Northwest so we will not develop and process our film on site. We will however, develop our skills in the digital darkroom. Photography students are expected to present and display their photographs within the school, participate in the Annual Art Show and competitions.
